You may have heard of Greenland, NH Police chief Michael Maloney who was tragically killed in the line of duty on April 12, 2012. You can read the story here.
A handful of officers decided to run from the Portsmouth Police Department to the Greenland Police Department in his honor. Well the local running community got wind of the idea and within 2 1/2 weeks a 5.6 mile charity run was organized. The run was this morning. 2,100 runners signed up and all the money went to the Michael Maloney Family Trust.
It was a wonderful experience. There were runners walkers, families, people who had never run a race before. There were plenty of volunteers and spectators thanking and encouraging runners, plenty of water stops and great food at the end of the race — all donated. The race timing was also donated by Millennium Running
The run raised over $50,000 for the family of Michael Maloney. I was happy to be part of this wonderful outpouring of community support for our fallen hero.
